One of my favorite quotes from the author C.S. Lewis , “The great thing, if one can, is to stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one's 'own,' or 'real' life. The truth is of course that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one's real life -- the life God is sending one day by day."
Well, that pretty much sums up what a proper perspective is in trials. It's broader than just trials. It includes all those "minor" irritations of life. In working with children having social and behavioral regulation difficulties, I talk to them about the "size" of the problem. We define a small, medium and large problem. We also talk about what a person's reaction should be to each size problem. We talk, role play, teach parents how to monitor the child to see if he is reacting to each size problem with the reaction that is appropriate.
