Churchhill's Christmas Advice, 1941

On December 24, 1941, Winston Churchhill shared A Christmas address to the British people during the heart of World War II. He added a small section where he encouraged parents to take time away from the concerns of the day and invest in a special time with their children on Christmas.

Let the children have their night of fun and laughter. Let the gifts of Father Christmas delight their play. Let us grown-ups share to the full in their unstinted pleasures before we turn again to the stern task and the formidable years that lie before us, resolved that, by our sacrifice and daring, these same children shall not be robbed of their inheritance or denied their right to live in a free and decent world.

And so, in God's mercy, a happy Christmas to you all.

This is such a great reminder of the scripture verse, in John.

"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Jesus has overcome the world and understanding that fact enables us to "take time off from our troubles. The troubles will be there but this moment in time with our children will be gone if it isn't embraced. Allow your children to worship the Lord and enjoy Christmas. They will be able to do both, if their parents lead the way!
