Advocating: New Semester

It’s a new start!  That is if things weren’t going well at the end of last semester.  If things were going well, then I’d encourage you to say a prayer of thanks.  Many parents with children that are diagnosed with learning differences will fall into the first category.  If changes need to be made…..now is the best time to do it.  Why?

1  There is no better time than the present to get going.  Things won’t normally change without the parents leading the charge.  Request a meeting, evaluation or whatever would be the first (next) step for change.
2.  There are over 2 months before spring break.  This is one of the longest stretches without vacation during the year.  There is a lot of time to get things done with very day-in-day-out type of routine.
3.  There has been adequate time for teachers and other school professionals to see if things will ease into place naturally.  If this hasn’t happened, the whole school year will be lost unless everything gets moving quickly at the beginning of the semester.

Parents are the best advocates for their children.  This is an encouragement to be swift and request the necessary next steps the first week back at school.
