Diversity

Let me be the first to wish you a great Martin Luther King Day!  I know many of you will be taking today as a little breather of vacation day.  If you have the day off from work and/or school enjoy! Your children may be at school today and have special festivities to remember what strides have been made in the area of including all no matter what the color of a person’s skin.

Many years ago my husband served on a diversity committee.  He noticed that many areas of diversity were considered.  Some of the areas:  race and age but disability was not represented.  He quickly brought the area of disability to the discussion.  No one on the committee had been touched  personally by disability until my husband was a part of the committee.  There were representatives on the panel that had a connection to other areas of diversity.  They advocated strongly for the concerns they had.  You see, most of us need a personal connection to something to develop strong feelings.

Today is a day that we can stop and realize we need to advocate for those we love who can’t always do it for themselves.  It is also a time to realize that the heart of God is for those who have struggles.  He raises each of us through our life experiences to advocate for different things so that his purposes are reached in many areas.
