The last few weeks, the Thursday Parenting post has focused on all the items that can be done to prepare for the best summer ever. Let’s go through the to-do list.
1. Make summer goals.
2. Decide on activities and structure to attain the goals.
3. Develop an action plan.
If you haven’t done the above, now is the time! I am a believer of do what you can do before summer is upon you and your children are under foot. It’s too late then. Here are a few things that could be done now.
1. Make sure all camps, Bible School, summer school or other activities registration is completed. These activities fill up. Once you’ve received a confirmation of the registration, you know it’s done. Until then, it’s just a good intention.
2. If your child needs anything special to succeed in these activities, it’s time to line that up. I always did a one page fact sheet that I shared with the leadership of any activity where I wasn’t on sight. You may need to line up a babysitter or respite provider to attend the activity with your child. If you send an extra person with your child, you will need to communicate that with the leadership in advance.
3. Remember to do anything you can in advance.
4. Remember to communicate with everyone involved. Don’t worry about over communicating. Most activity coordinators appreciate the “heads up” so he can make the necessary adjustments in advance.
It’s easy to procrastinate filling out applications but your attention to this earlier rather than later gives you a better chance for a smooth summer.
