Keep Routines Simple

Let me share my morning routine for tomorrow. Tomorrow is my busiest work day of the week. My husband has an early day and my son has class at community college at 8 am. I am old fashioned and like things ironed so that was done tonight. Everyone's clothes are ready to go. The alarm will go off at 5:45 am. Y husband will quickly get ready and leave the house at at 6:15 to get to church for an elders meeting at 6:30.

Now it's my turn. I will get up when my husband leaves. I will quickly get ready making sure I leave enough hot water for my son. After I am done showering and brushing my teeth, I go dry my hair in our down stairs bathroom while my son takes his shower in the upstairs one. Once we are ready, Isaac will grab a drink a d I get a bag of muffins in the freezer. We are out the door by 7:30 and eat our food on the way to school and work. I drop my son off at college on my way to my first appointment at 8:30.

Mornings go quite smoothly. Why? There are a lot of reasons.

Lots of practice over the last 26 years of being a mom.

There are less details with less people at home these days so it's smoother and easier.

Streamlining the process to fit our family.

Doing some prep work the night before. When all my children were home, I did a lot more the night before,

Everyone gets up at the set time. This is crucial. It's hard to stay on schedule if people get up late.

WHY DOES THIS WORK? It isn't complicated. We have learned (the hard way) that stress grows if we don't have routines that are simple that we will actually follow.

It is worth the work it takes to figure out how to simplify routines. Everyone is less stressed and there is a lot more peace. Everyone wants these two things. I would love to hear how you are finding simpler ways to structure your family life.
