Anyone who thinks summer is a time for laziness, has never had children. Summer is busy. There is little time to do any extras. Here are a number of scenarios.
1. Running a house that is the neighborhood hangout. Sprinklers, sidewalk chalk and Popsicles.
2. Elementary school carpooling. Lessons, day camps and bible school.
3. Elementary school hanging out. Play dates, going to the pool.
4. In and out of town. Taking children to overnight camps, family reunions and vacation.
5. Activities. Ballgames, working concessions, driving children to practices, drivers education classes, summer school, babysitting jobs.
Not all of these scenarios will fit your season of life or your family. Our family has done almost all of these at one time or another. Regardless of what your summer looks like, it will be very full! Remember you are making precious memories. Don't put lots of pressure on yourself to have the perfect summer or to conquer the summer bucket list. It's the little everyday things that create memories. You don't need to make every activity a big deal. The fact that you are there with your children is a big deal.
Next week we will look at a mom's calm and patient words and actions as a way to create good family memories.
