Ecclessiastes 3
There is a time for everything, and today we learn a little bit more of the things God has ordained.
Let's look at the second half of verse 2. You may think, "how long is it going to take to get through this passage of scripture?" I admit, it will take several weeks but it is good to meditate (which means to take it in, think about it, "chew on it" a while until it goes deep within you) on a small amount of scripture.
"a time to plant and a time to uproot"
I live in the midwest and agriculture dominates our state and many around us. This time of year the corn and soybeans are growing. If they are not planted at the best time, their growth suffers. It's a time of beginning. Sometimes it's not crops but it's us. It's time to put down roots in a new place. Every year I find out about a family in our church that will be moving out of our area. In fact, I heard this today. It's God's timing ...where we have jobs, for how long and when he has a new task or assignment. There is a time to uproot! Just as there is a purpose for the crops to come out of the ground, there is a purpose for the uprooting that each of us experiences.
Yes, there is an uprooting of all our comforts but it's for our good and for His glory!! Once there is an uprooting then it's time for a new beginning as we are planted in a new place or new circumstances so the planting begins. It may be a new planting season but it is totally in God's control!
