I Speak When I Shouldn't. I am Silent When I Need to Speak!

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

I Speak When I Shouldn't. I am Silent When I Need to Speak! Is it just me or does everyone have difficulty getting this right? I need to speak less sometimes. Ecclesiastics 5:2-3 says:

2 Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.
3 A dream comes when there are many cares,
and many words mark the speech of a fool.

Our words reflect what is going on in our hearts. It is always better to "weigh our words" carefully before we speak them. Once they are out, there is no way to retrieve them. Make sure your words are well chosen. Words communicate. We want to make sure we are communicating what we really mean. Many times, it doesn't matter what a person means, it matters what he communicates! Others remember what he communicated with his words. Make sure the words spoken communicate what you want to say!

On the other hand, I let an opportunity go by when I could of identified with Christ and let them know that I trust in the One True God! I don't take opportunities to encourage someone who really needs it. I could ask a friend if I could pray for her and do it right then.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

Sometimes it needs to be in word!!

Here is a simple prayer for this problem I have.

Lord,

Help me get this right. Help me know when to measure my words before I speak. I need your help to know when to freely spill out my words to others. Give me wisdom to speak at the right time and to be silent, or at least, careful in the words I speak. I need your wisdom, Lord. I can't do this on my own. Amen
