"I want a therapy room, but where do I start." My suggestion seems pretty simple but it's the best way I know how to answer this question. "Start at the beginning."
Once the room has a table and some storage bins, it's time to stock up on basic supplies. You'll be surprised how many you already have.
- Crayons, markers, pencils, paint
- Puzzles (all kinds)
- Fine motor supplies, beads (different sizes) pipe cleaners, lacing cards, pegboards, scissors,
-
Different kinds of paper (white, colored construction paper,)
- Visual supports for schedule (check on my visual support pinterest board for free sources)
- Symbolic toys for play(kitchen/play food, dr. office, school, construction/transportation toys)
- Board games
- CD player/iPod and music (kids cd's or downloads)
- Chalk, magnet, whiteboard(s) and supplies needed for them
- Plastic animals
- Laminator and laminating supplies (clear contact paper will work instead)
- Lots of real photographs of common objects, people, animals and emotions.
I have several Pinterest boards that may give you more ideas. Please check out my recent posts on TEACCH. I list several websites where free materials can be downloaded.
Another great inexpensive resource I like for materials is http://www.abaresources.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=68
Another website that has great materials is Natural Learning Concepts.http://www.nlconcepts.com
I would love to hear where others have found therapy products for home.
