Stress Warning! Don't Be Caught Off Guard!!

Advocates beware! Life may seem stressful now. Just wait? As the saying goes, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" Many moms are advocates for their children. A mom with a child with learning differences or disabilities often lives and breathes as an advocate for her child. Dads are advocates also but moms who are single or are at home during the day are an advocate in a very intense way. The phone calls from school come to you. The morning and after school routine is under your supervision. You often keep the therapy schedule and make sure all the appointments are kept. If you are a working mom you have another area to coordinate, daycare. It sounds like a lot! That's because it is a lot! Add your other responsibilities of wife, mother, and figuring out how all the work is going to get done. It makes me tired even thinking about it.

If you didn't all ready have enough stress in your life, you are just about ready to enter a stress zone like no other. Oh, yeas it could be worse if illness, death or tragedy hits you. For everyday"ness" there is nothing more stressful than the "holidays." Let me be the first to say, it is a stressful time of the year. Don't be surprised by this. That doesn't mean you have to dread it but it does mean that you need to be aware and prepare accordingly. I find it helpful to decide ahead of time, what I will and will not do this Christmas season. I also try to prepare mentally for the fact that this is going to be a difficult season but it is short lived. I may need to put some of the stressful everyday things on hold until the New Year. don't allow the extra responsibilities of the Christmas season catch you unaware.

Remember, you've been reminded and warned: stress is ahead!!
