Advocating: Avoiding Burnout

This is a week of celebrating with family and friends and enjoying a little bit of family time without much of a schedule. The week of New Year's has always been one favorite times of the year. Life in December is very busy. We had school and church children's concerts. There was shopping and baking and a host of other activities. My husband is a pastor so there are many activities our family is involved. We have an outreach to internationals for Christmas, several Christmas Eve services, staff Christmas party, a women's ministry Christmas Event among other regular activities at church.

With this schedule, I am usually exhausted by Christmas Day! I was focused on many of these events so I usually dropped the ball of advocating for my son during December. Christmas is over so I needed to get moving because school Starts in a week! Right? Well, maybe not!

We all need a vacation to rest and rejuvenate. Everyone needs a coffee break! Taking a lunch hour is for nourishment. Children have recess to get some physical activity so they are more productive in the classroom. Moms and dads need some rest after a busy season. It will make you a more productive advocate as next semester begins. A semester is a long 5 months. Make sure you are rested before it begins so you have the mental, emotional, and physical stamina to stay the course advocating as the semester begins.

Let me give you permission to take this week off from advocating. Enjoy your family. Enjoy a little time by yourself, with your husband or a girlfriend. It will help you more than you can imagine. A little Rest and relaxation will replenish you so that you can have the energy needed to hit it hard next week as second semester begins. Enjoy this week!
