In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature] of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
I recently served in the children’s program at a Joni & Friends Family Retreat. This is a Christian disability ministry that seeks to enable a family affected by disabilities to have a family vacation that might not otherwise be possible. It provides spiritual and recreational ministries to the families that attend.
The children’s Bible teacher taught on this passage all week. In fact, the children memorized this passage. It was such a blessing to consider Christ’s life in the simple but profound way it was presented.
Today, I’ll share about the lesson of Jesus as our creator. The Trinity was present from before time began. God had created a perfect world. We looked at a vase with lovely flowers that represented God’s perfect created world. There was a second vase and it looked just like the first one. The second vase was place in a bag and smashed. The vase broke into a thousand pieces representing the destruction of God’s perfect world through sin and the fall of man. I have to say, I and everyone else in the room was in shock. We hadn’t expected the shattering of glass. You could of heard a pin drop.
As we looked at what had just happened, we were encouraged to think about this passage. Because of sin, Jesus left the very comfortable home in heaven to provide a way out of all those slivers of glass that represented the broken world we call our home. Just think of it, Jesus made a perfect world. The sin of man destroyed this perfect world that is now affected by the sin of the fall. What did Jesus do? Was he disgusted? Did he wipe His hands clean and turn away from us? No, he left the wonders of heaven and willingly came to this sin laden world for the benefit of us who are sinful.
Amazing! The more I think about it, the more amazed I become.
