End of the Year Activities

The Normal days of school are just about over.  That doesn't mean that the last day of school is just around the corner.  where I live, there are two more weeks of school.  Two LONG weeks of a different schedule every day at school. There will be field trips, track and field day, class picnics, assemblies and lots of non typical activities.  I don't know about your child, but all these "special and memory making" activities were excruciating for my son.  If you have a child who doesn't "do change" well, these will be hard weeks.  What can you do?  Here are just a few ideas from my experience.

1.  Find out the schedule and go over it with your child to help prepare him/her.
2.  Ask his teacher(s) to write a social story to prepare him for some of the events.
3.  Attend as many of these events as possible.  It will enable you to ease the anxiety.
4.  Pull him from some of the events if you think there is just too much!!
5.  Expect meltdowns and crying before and after school.  It will probably happen.

The goal is in sight but you are not to the end zone yet.  Hang on a little bit longer and you will will cross into it.  Make sure you do a happy dance on the last day!
