As each parent hears a diagnosis for a child there are so many emotions and thoughts. One that many parents have share with me is a question, "Will my child ever like independently?" I asked that question more than once. Well, I have learned I can't concentrate on this for too long or I become overwhelmed at all the things that I need to do as a parent to make that a reality. I need to identify a few next steps and concentrate on those in the immediate future.
I have to say that has been the focus of our son as my husband and I have tried to step back and evaluate what our son needs are every few months. Over the next few weeks, the blog posts will be on areas that must be developed for the future goal of independent living. Some of these will be obvious and some might not. Please join me as I share our family's journey to seeing our son live independently. We haven't arrived to the goal yet but we are working toward it.
Next Monday, I will share some exciting news about the journey. Next Tuesday, the post will be looking at skills that can be developed many years before a child leaves the nest. Please join me for this series. I'm really excited about these upcoming!
