If I could offer one suggestion toward organizing for independence, I would say KEEP IT SIMPLE! The simpler the system and the less stuff a child has to manage, the more likely there will be success. Now if I had to add a second suggestion, I would say MAKE IT VISUAL! I recently led a workshop on Normalizing Family Life and physical organization was a large part of that presentation. There is no way to do everything on the above list. That would never work. You need to find solutions to the areas that keep your child from successfully developing independence in everyday activities. I would love to hear what things work for your child.
