Let’s say, you feel you need more input and would like to have some testing done. Where do you start? Here are some ideas.
- Talk to other families who have a child with learning differences. Hear their stories and find out what providers they have used.
- If your church has a special needs ministry, ask the director questions. Ask to speak with others in your church who have gone through a similar process. Get referrals from them.
- A school counselor may give you a referral.
- Look online to see what is available in your area. If you have a sense of what the individual issues are you can research them. LDonline is a great place to start. It covers almost any learning difference.
Your list will look different if testing isn’t the greatest priority but the process may be similar as you seek referrals and information about trusted professionals in your area.
