Have you noticed a tendency in your child to be argumentative? Does she feel like she has to win? Well, you are not alone. I have to admit, most children have some bents in this direction. A child with neurological challenges seems to “need” this?
I can speak from my parenting experience. My son would argue with me about something and I just didn’t understand why. After a few minutes of this bantering, it would come out that I used an incorrect word or said something not quite precise enough for his tastes. Ah, another way perfectionism comes out.
As we come to the end of this series, one thing has become clear. There are a number of issues that children with learning differences share that cause behavioral difficulties. Many of these things are related. Argumentativeness and perfectionism are just one example of many things that match up and work together to reinforce each other and cause behavior issues.
We’ll wrap this series up next week. Please let me know if you have any other issues or behaviors that you would like to see posts.
