Angel Visits

Today, the study of the birth of Christ moves to the appearance of  the angel to both Joseph and Mary.  These visits were announcements of Jesus’ upcoming birth.  There are some many things that could be discussed this week.  The passages that deal with this are Luke 1:26-38 and Matthew 1:18-25.  Here are some ideas for family devotions.

  • Read the passages from the Bible (you may want to use a paraphrase so it’s easier for a younger child to understand).
  • Use a bible storybook that has these as individual stories.
  • Use other resources such as the ARCH series books.
  • Ask questions about what Mary and Joseph would of thought before the angel came, when he first appeared, during the announcement and after the announcement.
  • Questions about Mary and Joseph’s trust and obedience to God would be a way to help children see a connection between the Bible Story and their lives.

It’s always a good idea to review the promised king scripture and help everyone tie it to the passages for this week.  Since bible books and sunday school lessons teach the scripture in small segments, it’s important to help children (and ourselves) see the big picture.

There are so many fun crafts that you can find online for these verses.  It should be as easy as looking on Pinterest and a quick trip to Target.

Enjoy this opportunity to teach your children the Word of God.
