Today we begin a series focused on the process of advocating during the last quarter of the school year. This is a time of the year that can be lost when it comes to making progress for your child at school. This doesn’t have to happen!
There are at least 2 ½ months left. That’s plenty of time to make progress. But how? Well, that’s what we’ll look at next week. The other topics we’ll cover are: tweak/overhaul of your child’s IEP or 504 plan, planning for next year and using the summer to help your child.
The progress during the spring months will largely depend on the parent advocate. She/he (or both) must continue to gently push a few doors open and it takes all 9 months of the school year to do this. Keep at it for a little while longer. It is similar to a college student who must keep his eye fixed on the goal of finishing the semester well. If he works hard for an A through minderms and then tries to coast to the end of the semester, his final grade isn’t likely to be the A.
