No, today's topic is not the extremely long novel War and Peace!! In fact, I couldn't tackle that subject because I haven't ever tried to read it. I say that because I know people who have started it but never finished. Today, is the last day to look at all the opposites in Ecclessiastes 3.
There will always be wars and there is always peace somewhere. When I say that, I define peace as the absence of war. In the history of the world there is only a short time where there was not some war occurring in the known world. There are a lot of places today that face traditional war, nation against nation. There are religious based warring between local people's. There is guerrilla warfare and terrorist groups leading various attacks around the globe. We are blessed to live in a place where very little of this type of war is seen first hand. Many would say we live in a place of peace. I define our nation that has an absence of war. But where is the peace?
Peace comes in many ways. First, there is peace with God. The evangelist Billy Graham wrote a Book entitled Peace with God. Here are the 4 steps he outlines in his book to make peace with God.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5.
We make peace with God by trusting in Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross. He took on my sins and your sins to pay the penalty for them. He offers us salvation freely so that we make peace with Him.
If that wasn't enough he gives us a peace like no other. It is the real thing!
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
God has promised war and peace will be present on the earth. At first glance, it seems that peace is the absence of war. The scripture tells us about a peace that is from God. It is of God. It's so much greater than a truce. It is real peace. The kind that comes from being in right relationship with God through trusting in Jesus for taking punishment for our sin.
I learn that no matter where we live. Whether it is a war zone or not, I can still have peace.
