Advocating at the End of the School Year

Ah!  It’s Memorial Day!  The school year may be done for some reading this post but for many there are a few more days or weeks.  If you are done, congratulations!  You made it through another year of homework, meetings and more advocating than I know.   For the others, hang on it’s almost over.

What can you do at the end of the year to advocate for your child.  Here are a few ideas.

1.Meet with principal to share what you believe went well and not so well this year.  Ask if he/she knows who your child will have for a teacher next year.

2.Meet with next year’s teacher, if determined, to give her/him a “preview” of your child.

3.Ask your child’s current teacher to write some “do’s” and “don’ts” for your child to share with next year’s teacher.

Sit back and relax knowing you’ve earned at least a 2 month break from school advocating.

Monday Advocating Tools will take a 2 month break as most families don’t do a lot of advocating in the summer.  Look for its return on the first

Monday in August.  It will help you gear up for returning to school.  I’ll be posting Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in June and July.
