Jesus as King

Remember how the people of Israel were looking for the messiah to be a powerful political king.  Well, it didn’t happen.  Philippians 2 explains what Jesus was like.  Who, being the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant. Jesus, both then and now, doesn’t do things in the way I would.  He turns the ideas of others on their heads.  He is the King and he shows his kingship in a totally different manner.

Jesus shows us what servant leadership is all about.  He gives us an example of laying down the rights we have and serving in humility.  He shows us how to be responsive to the chain of command.  Jesus followed the will of God, the Father.  That was how it was to be from the beginning.  Jesus willing laid down His life on a cross for me and for you. 

That was true leadership. It’s leadership by example.  What happened after Jesus fulfilled his Father’s will?  God exalted him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  Jesus was exalted by His Father to His rightful place as king.

Let’s just contemplate some of the great truth and action that we see in this passage.
