I looked at my blogging calendar and it's time to be done with this behavior series. There is one problem. We have only scratched the surface when it comes to good behavioral strategies, We learned about using preferred activities as a "carrot" to encourage the child to start and finish non-preferred activities. structure and predictability is another great strategy to use as well as language prompts.
These are some of the basics of behavioral intervention but it's just that-- the beginning. There is so much more to learn. These work for most children but not all. They may not work forever even if they work now. We all need a few more things in our parenting toolkit. That's why we will have another series starting in a few weeks entitled "Behavior 201-"Enlarging your Toolkit."
For the next few weeks the posts will concentrate on summer issues but stay tuned for a return of behavior strategies!
