Summer To Do List at Home

When it comes to summer, there are a couple responses moms have. One response is, PANIC! There is so much I need to get done before summer! Another response is it comes when it comes! That's the continuum. On one end there is the anxiety ridden mom and on the other end is the ultra chill mom. Where do you fall on this? I was usually in the middle. Here are a few things I found helpful.

  1. If you need to clean out the closet of a child that is a saver then the time is NOW! Those children who can't bear getting rid of all the happy meal toys since she was two, will not hear of purging if you try to do it when they are around in the summer.
  2. Make up a master schedule that can be displayed. It will save lots of anxiety and bickering. If your children need visual schedule pieces for an individual schedule, the time has come to work on it. You can download pictures from google images and wrap packing tape around them or take them and laminate them. Use velcro or magnets to complete the project.
  3. Shop for all the things that are non perishable and stock up. This includes things like, toilet paper, paper plates, napkins, toothpaste, deodorant, wet wipes. Make a master list and then go to Costco!
  4. Do you have a grocery store that allows you to order on line and go pick up? In Iowa, HyVee has just started doing this. I have signed up online and will begin in the next couple of weeks. I know WalMart has some stores that do this. If that's an option, consider trying it out before school is out to see how it might work for you.
  5. Try to clean your house really well before summer. It is just nice to start the summer off clean and organized. It might be a while before you see it again!
  6. If you are a gardening type, try to get everything planted before the children are home. If you are like me and don't like planting flowers, maybe your husband or children will do it as a Mother's Day gift.
  7. Purchase any supplies you want for the children to play especially outdoors. This could be sidewalk chalk, pool noodles, balls, jump ropes or new sand for the sandbox. Do you need a new kiddie pool. Whatever you might need, make a list and go shopping. It's easier now than later.

Work to have your house organized for having your children home. It may not look like IKEA or the The Container Store but it will be ready for making memories with your children with a little lower stress than last year!
