No Need to be a Control Freak

God has it all under control but each person must believe or the control freak comes out and causes lots of stress and anxiety. The author, Elizabeth Elliott put it well.

"If you believe in a God who controls the big things, you have to believe in a God who controls the little things."

Let's look at some scripture to gain more insight into the meaning of this quote.

Luke 12:7

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Psalm 139:17-18

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them, Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I am awake, I am still with you.

Phillipians 4:6
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Here are a few takeaways
  • God made the big things in creation. He made the small things of creation. He made each grain of sand and it is really small. He made each strand of hair. Another small thing. He made enormous things. Have you ever seen the ocean or a mountain range? They are huge!
  • He made man and woman the pinnacle of his creation. He has such a special place in his heart for us.
  • God is so much greater than his creation and that include me. His greatness of thoughts outnumber all the grains of sand on the earth. His thoughts that we know from the Bible transform my life. Think of all the thoughts of God I don't realize He has. He is a God who is great and it shows in multitudes of ways.
  • He promises to be with me. His spirit lives in me and every believer. His spirit guides the believer in the way to go both big and small.
  • He tells me to quit worrying. For me, worry is the beginning of my control freak side emerging. How about you?
  • He also says, to pray about ANY needs not just big ones!
God will answer our big needs. He will provide for our small needs. I know this from the last verse that tells me to thank God for his answers to prayer. I also know it personally. I see God working in individuals, families and our church daily. Trust him in everything. He has a wonderful way of showing up a lot when we cease to worry and start to recognize He is in control!
