Take a Break, Mom!

If you read this blog regularly, this may sound like a broken record. I am hoping quantity conveys the idea of importance. I know from my years going to bible studies that in ancient Hebrew literature, repetition was how emphasis was made. In the book of Isaiah, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord. The repetition of the word holy was used to denote emphasis. In the same way, I can't overstate how important it is to get a break from intense parenting. Make sure it's in the schedule. It is IMPORTANT! In fact, very important!

Get it on the schedule when you still feel like you are doing ok. In my experience as a mother of a special needs child and neuro typical children, it's vital to my long term mental health. If you want to go the distance, do it often! I often thought I was doing fine and felt a little guilty for spending money on myself. Ladies, get over it! I thought I was doing well and then in one afternoon, I came unraveled. Yes, it was me. My children were being normal: acting like children. Caregiving is tough work. Realize it and plan accordingly.

Call that sitter now. You will be thankful you did.
