Here are a few ideas to create a personalized back to school social story. You can use this easy template for a social story to prepare your child to begin school.
Take a few pictures of various areas of the school at "Meet the Teacher Night." You can insert each picture with a printed sentence like those below. An inexpensive photo flip book would be a perfect way to make this social story. It is portable and can be taken along to school the first few days and reviewed at home in the mornings and evenings.
I will go to school in my car. The name of my school is..... (Insert picture of the school building)
When I arrive at school on the first day, my mom will walk me into my class. ( picture of hallway and classroom). Mom will leave after I am sitting at my desk.
My teacher is ........(insert picture of teacher).
My desk will look like this (picture of desk with name plate)
My schedule at school will be. (Picture of a visual schedule)
I will stay with my teacher and class when we leave the classroom for recess, bathroom breaks and lunch. (Pictures of all these places)
When the school day is over, I will go with my teacher and class to the car line. My mom will pick me up to go home.(photo).
