Let's Go!

It's August and it's time to start advocating for the new school year. Don't get stressed! At least, not yet. Over the next few weeks let's talk about ways to be proactive. Nothing good usually comes from worry! Take some of that energy and put toward helping your child to succeed.

I am a big believer in structuring the environment as a way to help your child. How? So glad you asked! Here is the Monday posting schedule for August.

  1. Creating a fact sheet for your child. Think of this as an abbreviated manual about your child to prepare the teacher for what to expect in academics, speech/language, problem solving, social/emotional, motor and behavioral skills. This helps everyone to stay on the same page as the year begins.
  2. Bedtime routines. Sleep helps everyone: children, parents and teachers. Your child's sleep habits can make or break each school day.
  3. Organization of the home: developing a family command center.
  4. Developing a homework routine that sets the stage for calmer evenings and mornings.

I am looking forward to this series. Structuring the environment with routines and strong communication is a great way to start off a school year. Let's explore some simple ideas of creating an environment that helps everyone enjoy this year at school!
