This has become one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It is about Mary who poured very expensive perfume on Jesus as an act of worship. Others criticized Mary accusing her of being foolish and wasting the perfume by pouring it on Jesus. They thought she should sell it and give the money to the poor. Jesus defended her choice.
I have learned so much from these words of Jesus.
- Jesus sees things with a longer term(eternal) perspective.
- Pleasing Christ is what is truly important.
- Sometimes an opportunity comes and goes quickly and we have to be spiritually ready for it.
- A person isn't required to do everything. She did what she could. This has been an encouragement during many seasons of my life. I can always do something just like Mary.
- Jesus defended her. He was there for her. That is true for each person who trusts is Christ for salvation.
