I first heard this preached at a women's conference many years ago. It has stayed with me. It is the story of Mary anointing Jesus for burial a few days before the crucifixion. Mary had poured a expensive bottle of perfume on Jesus. when I say expensive, I mean EXPENSIVE. There were people around who criticizing her for this act of worship. they had other ideas of what she should of done with the perfume. Jesus came to her defense and told the others thar she did what she could.
This was so encouraging to me when I heard that sermon so many years ago. I was a pastor'swife in a growing church. I had adolescent daughters, and a son recently diagnosed with autism. My mother was in failing health and lived 1200 miles from me. I didn't have much time or energy for ministry past my own family. I wanted to be involved in so many things. It seemed impossible. But Jesus defended Mary and told those around the that Mary had done what she could. That day God impressed upon me that he knows what I can do at each stage of my life. He only expects me to do what I can during each season. He doesn't want me to feel guilty about what I'm not doing but wants me to know He is pleased with what I am doing!
