favorite Bible Verses: Luke

Luke 12:22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on.”

Anxiety is a killer! It is also a thief! It can steal sleep, appetite, productivity, peace and joy. When those things are lost it begins to kill us. It kills healthy relationships, ability to see reality, affects one's perspective, ability to reason and eventually our physical health. It can turn a positive outlook to a negative one. A once optimistic person becomes a pessimist. Circumstances become the controlling influence in life.

That sounds like a bummer. What can I do to keep this from happening? Control anxiety! That may seem like a tall order. It is but it is essential if a person wants the fruit of the spirit in her life. What are those: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. Anxiety needs to be minimized if the fruit of the spirit are to be maximized in our lives.

We only know of some of the things Jesus said to his disciples. There were many more but in this verse there is a command that he gave probably because he knew how susceptible each person is to allowing anxiety to control the heart and mind. He knew that an individual can become consumed about the here and now. The urgent can over power. Anxiety ceases to serve as a protective emotion in times of danger. It takes over and causes great distress and distrust of a God who will supply any need at the proper time.

"Do not be anxious about your life" is not easy. It will take human effort while trusting in God. When it comes to controlling anxiety, Trust God and get going!
