Hard Things Often Turn Into Good Things

My son recently graduated from a Christian High School.  This was a dream come true for me.  Isaac had attended this school since kindergarten and there had been many challenges and hurdles that had to be conquered to make this a reality.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of those hurdles.  Today, let’s tackle the hurdle of Isaac’s willingness to walk daily outside his comfort zone.

Isaac often struggled with anxiety at school and in social situations.  Academics were the easy part.  The hard part was figuring out what comes next, what was expected, how is the teacher or his classmates going to react to various situations and how does “all this work.”  He had courage each and every day to walk in the school doors and tackle 8 hours in an environment that often didn’t make sense.

As hard as it was for him, he learned so much.  He matured and is able to handle so many more things as a result  of the experience of school.  He learned that hard things can be good things.  I can’t imagine a better social skills training program than the 13 years he spent at his school.  He learned to correct mistakes, develop relationships, ask for help, deal with frustration and lots more.  He even learned the typical things like English, social studies, science and math.

School wasn’t easy but it was worth it.
